First of all, let`s have a casual and delicious lunch at Mercado de Pinheiros, located in the lovely trendy neighborhood of Pinheiros. This small historic municipal food market offers a mezzanine full of little restaurants serving a delightful array of comforting dishes. Among the many tempting options, you must not miss the very Brazilian Baião de Dois andTapioca; and also, you must try the authentic Peruvian Ceviche.
Walking 20 minutes from the Mercado, we get to the Feira Benetido Calixto, a small plaza where a flea market takes place every Saturday. You will find lots of antiques and artisanal handcrafts sold here. While you are at the market, be sure to try some traditional Brazilian sweets such as ambrosia and pudim de leite, sold in many of the little stands. We can also have a drink at one of the bars around the plaza, sit back, relax and enjoy some live music.
To conclude this journey around São Paulo, let’s take a taxi and head over to Ibirapuera Park– a major park of the city that was opened in 1954 commemorating the 400thanniversary of São Paulo. The park is bustling with pathways, bicycle lanes, typical Brazilian açaíandcoconut water vendors – enjoy it! Here, we can also appreciate some of the Oscar Niemeyer`s beautiful architectural masterpieces, including the OCA and the Bienal exposition pavilions, the Ibirapuera auditorium, the Museu Afro Brasil, the Museum of Modern Art (“MAM”) and the Contemporary Art Museum (“MAC”). Once at the MAC, be sure to go to the rooftop and take in one of the most incredible views of São Paulo, especially at sunset. What a perfect way to end this beautiful Saturday in our charming city!
