Les Clefs d’Or New Zealand began its journey in 1994, founded by our Past President Mr. Derek Fenn, based on the principles of friendship and a collective commitment to providing exceptional service to our guests and community. The golden keys displayed on our uniform lapels make our members easily recognisable.

Les Clefs d’Or, meaning “The Golden Keys” in French, is an international association of professional hotel concierges and one of the oldest hospitality nonprofit organizations in the industry. Established in 1929, nearly 100 years ago, it started when 11 concierges from the main hotels in Paris decided to work together for the benefit of their hotel guests under the motto, “In Service Through Friendship.”

Our organization, formally known as the Union Internationale des Concierges d’Hôtels (UICH), represents top-tier concierges from over 50 countries. In New Zealand, we have 19 members located in the Bay of Islands, Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. Our aim is to facilitate the exchange of ideas among members and guide our network to improve the quality of service we provide to our hotel guests. Our golden keys symbolize our commitment to creating memorable experiences. Furthermore, our members adhere to a strict code of ethics and are dedicated to the ongoing excellence of our profession through training, networking, and professional development.

Les Clefs d’Or New Zealand continues to educate and develop concierges under the Professional Affiliates program, promoting hotel concierges as professionals within the hospitality industry. We strive to foster an environment where we can perform at our best, reconnect with our network of suppliers, and enhance the overall guest experience.
